Apple unveiled its latest iPhone and iPhone Pro models only late last year, but the rumor mill is already speculating what the next iteration has in stores. The tech giant is likely to launch the iPhone 16 sometime in September this year alongside iOS 18, which may be one of the ‘biggest updates’ in Apple’s history. From design to price to software, here’s everything we know so far about the iPhone 16 series.
Design
According to a report by MacRumors, Apple may be planning to change the design of the iPhone 16 Pro series. The tech giant may increase the screen size of the iPhone 16 Pro to 6.3 inches and the iPhone 16 Pro Max to 6.9 inches, which if true, will be the first increase in screen size in the last few years.

As for the non-pro models, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus may get a redesigned camera island with leaked renders showing that the rear cameras will be aligned vertically and enclosed in a pill. These renders also hint that Apple might unify the volume buttons and bring the Action button from the Pro variant as well as a capacitive button.
According to the known tipster MajinBuOfficial on X, the vertical camera is pretty much confirmed at this point. The information corroborates with a recent MacRumors report citing industry sources claiming that it was the main camera chassis for the I-34 camera project.

Specs
While the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max may be bigger than their predecessors, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will have the same dimensions as well as the same 60Hz displays.
On the base model, we expect the new A17 chip to make an appearance that may be a slower version of the A17 Pro chip that powers the iPhone 15 Pro variant.
The iPhone 16 lineup is rumored to feature stacked battery technology, meaning we might see improved battery life on the new iPhones. Apple also said to bump the charging speed to 40W. The tipster MajinBuOfficial also claims that the battery will see a bump in size as well, but this is just speculation at this point.
Camera
Coming to the camera, the iPhone 16 is likely to have a dual camera setup as its predecessor whereas the Pro models will have three cameras. On the Pro models, we might see a new 48MP ultrawide sensor, which is a clear upgrade over the existing 12MP shooter.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max is also said to get an improved eight-part hybrid lens, which will help capture better low-light and nighttime photos. Another speculation suggests the 5x telephoto lens from the iPhone 15 Pro Max could make its way to the iPhone 16 Pro.
Software
Apple’s upcoming operating system – iOS 18 could be a major overhaul and introduce a VisionOS-like design with rounded icons and generative AI features integrated with the OS itself. The company is also reportedly working on some additional customization options with Bloomberg saying Apple is developing its own very large language model that will run either power Siri or run on the device itself.
The stock mail and notes app is also set to get some generative AI power features, allowing users to automatically summarize and translate content.
Price
Apple may be planning to increase the base price of each model with the iPhone 16 lineup, but there is no word about the same. This means we will have to wait until September to find out how much you’ll have to shell out for the next iPhone.
