STATEN ISLAND, NY – St. Peter’s Girls High School in New Brighton was a top Staten Island spot for Catholic education for 94 years until it was sadly shuttered in 2011.

In addition to its academics, St. Peter’s Girls was known for its powerhouse Eagles basketball program and its legendary hoops coaches, Joan Gumb and Bob Daggett.

The program was one of the most successful in Staten Island history, with a number of championships to their credit. The school featured 14 Jaques Award winners over the years as well as 16 players who scored at least 1,000 points.

Vintage photos of an Avro Canada VZ-9AV Avrocar at the National Museum of the US Air Force get new attention

High River, Alta. woman seeks to find owners of vintage photos of Calgary family

CALGARY — All she knows are two names: Du Nghi Truong and Tam Minh Truong.

Those were the names written on several brown envelopes filled with family pictures taken in 1984 or 1985.

Karen Bitz purchased the home in Ogden in 1989 and began renovating it.

A few years into the project, he found the photos stashed inside a wall.

“One closet, inside the walls, was only built halfway up so at the bottom of one of these walls, we found a brown envelope with about 80 photos in it,” Bitz said from her High River home.
