A rare picture of Malayalam superstar Mammootty has surfaced online. One Sreenivasan Ramachandran, an alumnus of Maharaja’s College in Kochi, has shared the vintage picture of the superstar on his Facebook account. He also went down the memory lane as he remembered Mammootty as a “very stubborn” youngster, who nurtured a passion for acting.
The undated photo shared by Ramachandran was clicked during one of Mammootty’s performances in a play at the college. “My friend Akhilesh’s mother had told me that his father Umakanth was an associate of (director) IV Sasi. “It is a story about a very stubborn youngster, who came seeking an acting chance very early in the morning following a previous day’s announcement of a film,” wrote Ramachandran in his Facebook post.
“It is a story about a student of Maharaja’s College named Muhammad Kutty, who went onto becoming a superstar,” he added. He is referring to Mammootty, whose original name is Muhammad Kutty Paniparambil Ismail.
“How beautiful were those days at Maharaj’s College. Mammooty was an integral part of the college’s drama club,” he recalled, adding that it was there the 68-year-old superstar took his first steps towards becoming a film actor.
Ramachandran also identified the other person in the vintage picture as his friend Viswambhara, who would go on to become the collector of Ernakulam.
